Find your starting wave and don’t forget your punch card, the Sasea is calling!
Our awesome community running shop Spry hosts the Sasea Trail Race in the fall, and this past September was its third edition. This is also the business I work for, and so I love being involved and how it brings the community together. This year I even got to MC the finish line awards. I also got to do my favourite volunteer role, parking! I love seeing everyone as soon as they show up, it’s so fun. This was a great day out and I strongly suggest checking it out in September 2027. I might be biased, but I think this event is well worth your time.

Ep. 98 Crowsnest Pass. With Susan and Ian Lowe-Wylde
“It's going to be a challenge and yes, it's scary, but I know it's going to be a lot easier than being a race director. And I think it's important that runners know that and really appreciate race directors because it's a lot of hard work. And we're so lucky that there are so many races that we can now pick from.” - Susan Lowe-Wylde on running the Minot…
This race is incredibly fun because it’s different! It features a very unique format (from the Spry website):
The Sasea is a fully sanctioned and permitted race inspired by the Dipsea Race, where runners are given head starts based on their age and gender. This system allows a wide range of participants - ranging from young children to senior citizens - to compete on a relatively level playing field. The first person to cross the finish line is the overall winner, regardless of when they started the race.
Saskatoon Mountain is a beautiful place to run, which is another great reason to check out this event. The mountain is one of my favourite places to run in Crowsnest Pass. It’s close to my house and you get some amazing views very quickly. The climb is challenging and the descent is fun and flowy. It’s got everything you want!

The awards and finish line area was a great vibe this year. Kindred Ground is one of the best things in Coleman, period. They are an awesome community gathering spot and coffee shop and they had great hot drinks and snacks at the finish line for us all. Dig Deep was there giving out their product and the owner, Alison McPherson, won the race!
The finish-line MC might also help you park your car (and run the wrong way on course with you) and the person at the sponsor tent handing out samples might just win the race. That’s part of the reason this race is so fun!
Mark it on your calendars and come visit us in The Pass next year, you won’t regret it.
Shoutout to the awesome Mark Moland Photography for capturing the day!
